Splatoon 2 is the second game in the franchise with the first arriving on Wii U, which means perhaps for many they haven’t ever played it. But with the Nintendo Switch a resurgence in some of those big games that people might have missed on the not so popular Wii U.

Whats Splatoon 2 about
“Splatoon 2 is a multiplayer third-person shooter in which players control characters known as Inklings and use coloured ink to attack opponents and clear goals. Inklings can alternate between humanoid form, during which they can fire ink with their weapons, and squid form, which allows them to swim through ink of their own colour in order to move quickly and replenish ink supplies.”
Tigger and Roo both have played this but much of the feedback came from Tigger with Roo not being able to play it as much as there is no coop play on screen. Tigger has thoroughly enjoyed his time with his Switch but this game was a bit different for him, I was keen to see how he would take to it and perhaps open up to similar games to the future.
Within Splatoon 2 there are 2 main modes of play, story mode with is single-player, this takes place in the inkling city. The idea is the Great Zapfish is missing and each level you have to go round till you collect Zapfish, then defeat a boss and a portal takes you to the next level. the Levels themselves are challenging and full of puzzles.
Each level is relatively dull but that’s on purpose, loaded with your ink (paint) you quickly brighten it up and can use you inkling abilities to cling to and use the ink (paint) to get around the map. this can be challenging and difficult at first but like most puzzles based games you get the hang of it, but it gets more challenging as the game goes on.
There is local and online play but unfortunately, the local play as mentioned earlier can only be done one player on one console, so you would each need one to play, there is an online mode also that you connect via your internet. The Switch is Nintendo enabled online with a subscription, Tiggers top tip! hang around with someone of a high level if there on your team lol.
Overall…
Overall its a unique game, its a classic puzzle-solving level game, in which to get through it you have complete the obstacles etc.. which has been popular for as many years as gaming has, but with the inclusion of ink and their abilities its definitely different, this game had a bit of cult feeling behind it because only hardcore Nintendo gamers played the Wii U, and most of them liked the game, now its open to many more people with the success of the switch, the only downfall is its coop play, its a shame there wasn’t a mode but there are lots of games with Coop and this is just different to them.
I am loving the name… Splatoon… although I have never even played the first one so Splatoon 2 is totally beyond me! I used to love gaming as a child but never have an opportunity these days. I’d love to try out a Switch at some point though! Sim 🙂
It sounds like a great team game – and reminds of paint ball – though without the pain of paint ball 🙂
Hands up I LOVE Splatoon I am absolutely awful at it but have such fun running around trying to put my paint everywhere. It’s one those games that I don’t need to put much thought into which I think helps.
This sounds like so much fun. My son really wants a switch but I’ve said he will have you wait for Christmas
I’m getting my fiance a nintendo switch for his birthday so interesting to read more about some of the games you can get for it x
My boys have a switch and they also really enjoyed this game! I love how the switch has so much variety, my eldest had a Nintendo Labo set at Christmas and he really liked building them and seeing how it translated into a game too!
My son and husband love spending their Saturdays bonding and playing video game and Splatoon 2 sounds like the next game they should invest in
This looks like a fab game to play. I bet it is so much fun for the family xx
My kids adore this game, although we have just bought the new pokemon one, so that has priority at the moment
What a fun name, the characters look great too. I know some people in our house that would really enjoy playing this
This looks like a great game. Although we haven’t stepped into the world of gaming and nintendo’s in this house just yet I think we will be soon though. xx
