Star Trek
Star Trek is a hugely popular franchise covering over the last 50+ years, in TV, Films, and now animated series, it might have been a little bit up and down in quality and consistency but its popularity for many is still there. With a different path being an Animated series, the paramount series takes to the gaming world featuring the characters, ill be honest the kids haven’t watched it but Tigger has watched Star Trek so is familiar with the franchise.
What they say
“After the U.S.S. Protostar picks up strange readings from a dying star, the transporter malfunctions and scatters the crew across the universe. In a race against time, Dal R’El and Gwyndala must work to save not only their crewmates Jankom Pog, Rok-Tahk, Zero and Murf, but their ship, new alien species AND an entire planetary system – before everything is destroyed by a supernova!
But watch the skies for the deadly new nemesis and their army of robots, who will stop at nothing to destroy the Protostar and change the entire course of history! And watch out for Hologram Janeway as she teaches Dal and Gwyn about the ways of the Federation.
Play as fan favourites Dal R’El and Gwyndala in solo-play or 2-player co-op, to explore the brand-new alien worlds of Orisi, Mirios and Taresse and make first contact with their alien inhabitants. Learn the undiscovered civilisation’s culture and discover their secrets, while navigating the planets’ different hostile environments by playing puzzles and challenges.
Based on the hit animated series Star Trek: Prodigy, developed by Emmy® Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”), the show is the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences. The show follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future.”
What we say
The graphics look solid enough and have that animated feel to it much like the program, and this will be a residing factor, the sounds, chracters who are fully voiced, places, the ship and those grapics and all bang on point to the series. So those younger audeinces who are enjoying the series will get to grips with it pretty quickly.
The controls are relatively simple with the combat being pretty simple and perhaos gets a little repetitive, where combat might not be the strength of the the game, the levels look good and the puzzle element of this game is a much bigger and to be honest better part of it. As you go through the levels you are visiting the same of similar places but the puzzles get better where that combat perhaps gets a little stagnant.
This is a simple but solid game with those puzzles and story doing enough to keep you enthused, but oddly only two characters are playable, many of the other characters are in the game as you rescure them you can interact with them, maybe even used them on a special ability but even with the cast there, theres still just two playble characters. However this does mean you can play two player, even locally, but if you do play single player you can control both and go between the two.

Overall
Star Trek Prodigy appeals to those younger Star trek fans, and this is no different, its a solid action adventure and sticks to the series very well, really young kids might struggle with the puzzles a little, and may have not seen the series so that middle age kids brackets its great. Being a two player that can be local play awell helps either paretns of friends/ siblings being able to join in, it reminds me a lot of older Lego games, with puzzles, basic combat but ok, collectables, ok graphics and sounds.
Thats not a negative as i think its a good game to bring people into the franchise and will satisfy those who follow the series. Its not genre defining but will be a good game to play in a market of limited games like this. So if you are a fan its worht pikcing up, if your not its still a solid game for a 5-12 year old, that wants something different.
